The year is 1782 and Johann Andreas' family business on the shores of Lake Huron is in trouble. For some reason nobody wants to stay at "Andreas Wasp Infested Inn." Luckily for Johann, Captain Short Fuse Composure arrives on the scene, having been stranded by a band of pirates who mistook Michigan for an island. In his possession is a treasure map, and he promises Johann a share of the loot if he can assemble a crew and reach the treasure in advance of his arch-rival, the dreaded Burgundy Beard. Between dealing with Captain Short Fuse Composure's fear of North Atlantic Sea Tigers, an idiotic crew, and a complete lack of knowledge about the sea, will it be possible for Johann to find the treasure, get the girl, charm her father, stop tripping over things, and save his family business?

Lawson HS Select Choir traveled to Staley HS this morning to perform in the MSHSAA Choir State Large Ensemble Festival. They performed two prepared pieces for a panel of three judges earning an "Exemplary I" and two "Outstanding II" ratings. Following their performance on stage, they went into the Sight Reading room and earned an "Exemplary I" rating for their performance in there. The scores were combined to award them with an overall "Exemplary I" rating. This is the first Choir from Lawson to achieve this honor since 2017! Congratulations to these outstanding musicians!

As we approach the end of the third quarter and push into the final stretch of the 2022-23 school year, we want to reiterate that our student's success is directly related to their presence in the learning process. Showing up matters, and together we can finish "Fourth Quarter Strong!"

During the months of December and January, 5th Grade music students in Mrs. Covey's class worked with a partner to compose an original duet to play on their recorders. After rehearsing their music with their partner, they then performed their compositions for their classmates. Students learned about the process of composing and the many challenges that come with writing music and then performing it for an audience. They also discovered that even the greats, like Beethoven, made mistakes when writing their compositions.
