The softball team travelled to Cameron on Saturday(8/31) to compete in a 12 team tournament. It was divided into 4 pools of 3 teams each and then based on the results, each team earned a spot in either the bronze, silver, or gold bracket.

Pool play

We drew a tough pool, starting the day off against a very good South Harrison team. We had several opportunities and couldn't find a breakthrough as we dropped that game 4-1. Our next matchup was against Central St. Joseph. We were able to capitalize on our opportunities and came out with a 12-8 win. Congratulations to Mariah Jones on her first career win!

Each team in pool play finished with a 1-1 record and the deciding factor for bracket placement was runs allowed. Based on the tie-breaker, we earned a spot in the silver bracket.

Silver Bracket

Our first game for bracket play was against a district opponent, the Benton Cardinals. We put the pressure on early and forced some miscues we took advantage of. We won that game 16-3. With the win, we earned the opportunity to play in the silver bracket championship against Lathrop. With a 3-0 lead going into the top of the 5th, the bats came to life. We tallied 10 hits in the final 3 innings to put the game out of reach and completed a 10-2 win.

Highlights

3-1 tournament record

It was a true team effort, as everybody contributed to our success. As a team for the day, we scored 39 runs on 47 hits, 11 of which were extra bases. Kamryn Florea led the team with 7 total hits, including an in-the-park home run. Our pitching and defense were solid and made for a great all-around effort on behalf of the Lady Cardinals!

The softball team will be back in action for a V/JV doubleheader at Richmond on Tuesday(9/3).
