On Tuesday, July 16th, eleven Lawson Middle and High School students participated in the 2024 Missouri Choral Directors Association Summer Honor Choirs. The event was held in Springfield in conjunction with the MCDA Summer Conference. The students spent the day rehearsing with students from all over Missouri before putting on concerts for their families and music teachers from across the country.
The 4/5/6 Choir was under the direction of Greg Gilpin, a Missouri native and renowned composer. The 7/8 Choir was under the direction of Dan Andersen, an active clinician and conductor from Indiana. The 9/10 Choir was under the direction of Houston native Robert T. Gibson, a dynamic composer and clinician. All three groups had a long but rewarding day making music and friends.
In order to be selected for the ensembles, students had to audition back in the spring.
Those students participating in the 4/5/6 Honor Choir were Colette Knutson, Dalilah Morris, Zaylynn Quirk, Rayne Sauvain, Bri Franken, and Annabel Richardson.
The 7/8 Honor Choir members were Kailyn Johnson, Emma Thompson, and Addie Vesser.
The 9/10 Honor Choir members were: Lillyn Holman and Aleah Johnson.
Halle Briegel and Elle LaFleur were chosen for the choirs but were unable to attend on July 16th.
