The fall sports are just wrapping up and the Cross Country team
came home from districts with state qualifiers. The girls varsity
team as well as Wes Morrison and Johnathan Peoples made it to the
next level-state. The team will be heading back to state with some
of the same strengths they went with last year.
“It’s really exciting to be going to state two years in a row,”
Jessica Korb (10) said. “It took a lot of hard work to get where I
am and it wasn’t always fun, but this year is going to be great
because we are all prepared the best we can be thanks to Coach
Sloop.”
The state meet will be at Nov. 7 at Jefferson City. The girls run
at 9 a.m. and the boys run at 10:15 a.m.
“It consists of 160 runners in the race with 16 complete teams,”
Nick Sloop, cross country coach, said. “The course is difficult,
but in the past years I’ve had runners have their best time of the
season on that course.”
To achieve their goal of running their best, they aren’t preparing
much differently than they have been throughout the regular
season.
“The state meet’s just like any other meet during the year,” Sloop
said. “We prepare the same way. If it’s working for us, why change
it?”
The runners agree with their coach that they can do well in the
state meet.
“Since we have a good chance at doing well, we are all focusing on
doing our best and doing what we have to do individually, and as a
team to get it done,” Korb said.
