Trenton Band Competition

The Missouri Festival at Trenton is known for many things, but when the Blazing Cardinal Marching Band members hear the word “Trenton” they think of one thing–competition.
“I like going to Trenton because we usually place higher,” Mr. David Potter,
band director, said.” It’s well run, and very organized. There are good judges and we perform better because it’s later in the season.”
The band starts its day early; the band trailer packed, and their uniforms ready, and on the buses themselves by 5:45. All the band members are to be dressed by the time they get to Trenton so they will be ready to get off the bus and line up for parade, which is the first thing to be judged for the day. Later comes field where they run through their Wild Wild West show. Directly after that is the flag show. The band gets a little break, usually to get food and enjoy the rest of the festival. Then that night is the drum line show- the last thing to be judged.
“Everyone did really well,” Ashley Blevins, drum majorette, said. “I asked everyone
for their honest effort and they gave it. I’m so proud of them for that.”
The Blazing Cardinal Marching Band received a fourth in parade out of five bands, a fourth in field out of nine bands, a fourth in flags out of five bands, and a first in drumline out of five bands.
“It’s about where we usually place,” Potter said. “Drum line I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised that we got first.”
This was drum line’s year to shine. The LHS band’s drum line has never received a first place at a competition before. Ever.
“It was so amazing and the best we’ve ever performed
it,” Jill Kujawa said. “But I think we won because of the mustaches.”
The festival itself has been going on for 13 years now, and typically falls at the end of the marching season.
“[Trenton is] so much fun,” Blevins said. “It’s probably the most fun. It’s what I look forward to all season.”
