Only One New Teacher in Lawson

October 10, 2009

Lawson School District decided to hire only one new teacher for the 2009-10 school year, Ms. Katie Telgemeier. Telgemeier will fill the opening as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.
Many people are talking about the newest teacher to Lawson’s staff.
Telgemeier, a University of Central Missouri (UCM) graduate, said she is “hoping to have a successful year.”
“Everyone at Lawson has been great, and very welcoming,” Telgemeier said.
Though Telgemeier is new, she taught at North Nodaway before coming to Lawson. Thanks to a teacher placement day at UCM, Ms. Telgemeier found exactly what she was looking for; a school close to where she grew up in Odessa, Mo.
While in high school at Odessa, Telgemeier participated in many clubs, and was involved in many sports such as volleyball, softball, cheerleading, basketball and track. She also was a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), an organization that she will take over sponsorship of along with her teaching responsibilities.
“Ms. Telgemeier’s optimism and bright personality will be an asset to our FCCLA chapter as a whole,” FCCLA President Adam Yount (12) said. “Her energy will be useful in our goals to propel our chapter farther.”
Along with the members of FCCLA, Telgemeier’s students are noticing her bright personality and positive attitude.
“Ms. Telgemeier is a positive change because she is very nice and always willing to help,” Brooklyn Bright (11), a student in Child Development, said. Bright believes that “she’s a fun teacher and is very talkative, which makes the class go by faster.”
